During the navigation it is possible to sight Austral Dolphins and Overas Toninas (kind of dolphins). To protect wild life, Marta Island is only circumnavigated to admire and photograph the Colony and the diversity of marine birds that live there. However in Magdalena Island it is possible to disembark for about one hour, to walk and to interact with the colony and visiting its Museum-Lighthouse. Return to the office and then the Hotel. Day 03: Full Day Patagonian Estancia
Breakfast . Pick up at hotel to start the journey by navigating from Puerto Natales to the Estancia La Península, a beautiful ranch located on the peninsula, Antonio Varas. Upon Arrival, you will be welcomed with some warm coffee, tea, and sopaipilla. Then the activities start: you can choose between horseback riding, trekking, 4×4 four-wheel drive or relaxing time at the estancia. The activities take approximate 2 hours and when finished a delicious traditional lamb barbecue is waiting! Then it’s time to learn about how we work with our sheepdogs and see a shearing of a sheep and learn about the whole process and how we classify the wool.
Passengers can choose one of the following activities:
HORSEBACK RIDING: On prized criollo horses the rides are lead by a gaucho, a local cowboy, and a bilingual guide to walk you through the estancia’s diverse landscape. Pass through wide-open pampas, green southern beech forests and rocky coastline while learning about the local flora and fauna. Admire the surrounding mountains and glaciers from spectacular viewpoints along the trail and even delve into history about the areas indigenous tribes while visiting an archeological point of interest. |
FOUR-WHEEL OFF ROAD DRIVE: This is an excellent option for those who are looking for a scenic tour without having to put in a too much physical effort. Guests can enjoy the comfort of riding inside our farm vehicle, a Land Rover defender 2002, that follows a dirt road from the main house all the way to the top of Cerro Ballena (Whale Hill). This route passes through a landscape of southern beech forests full of a variety of birdlife and other creatures. As the tour continues the vegetation evolves to a landscape dominated by chaura (a local bush) and coigue (the evergreen beech tree) passing by where the sheep live during the summer months. Upon reaching the top guests are rewarded with a 360-degree view of the fjord and the surrounding mountain ranges. |
GUIDED WALK AND BIRD WATCHING : We offer a variety of walks depending on your fitness level. The classic route meanders along the coastline passing through wetlands and native forests that are habitats for a number of wildlife. Birds such as condors, black-chested buzzard eagles, flamingos, geese, swans and much more are often observed within the first few steps. An overpopulation of rabbits in the area gives many birds of prey an ample food supply attracting birds of all shapes and sizes to the estancia. Our knowledgeable guide comes equipped with books and binoculars. |
RELAXING TIME AT THE RANCH: Jet lagged or tired from the previous day’s activities? Feel free to snuggle down on one of our sofas to contemplate the landscape, sip on some fine Chilean wine or browse through our book collection. Feel free to wander around the farm to snap photos of our stables, corrals, barn and our Patagonian Bearded Collies in their doghouse. The perfect option if you want to escape and have some alone time to clear your mind and absorb the beauty of the landscape. After a entertaining day return to Puerto Natales. Transfer to hotel.
